Volunteer Information
Newton’s Attic, a privately funded nonprofit founded in 1998 by Bill Cloyd, is dedicated to providing students with highly unusual educational experiences and providing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) educational resources to parents, students, and teachers. Our mission is to stimulate interest in science and engineering through exciting hands-on projects, classes, and summer camps.
The overarching purpose of Newton’s Attic is to make the learning about and teaching of math, science, and engineering enjoyable and exciting. We work to fulfill this purpose by creating very unusual educational resources and experiences that stimulate imagination and creativity. These resources are also offbeat and entertaining, so they appeal to a wide range of individuals and illustrate that technical knowledge can be used to provide pleasure as well as empower individuals to pursue their goals and dreams. We also strive to empower teachers with the tools and resources to produce excellent STEM education.
In addition to serving thousands of students at our facility, Newton’s Attic engages in community outreach through our programs at schools, libraries and science and community centers throughout Central Kentucky and beyond. Newton’s Attic has an excellent reputation in the Central Kentucky community as a science and engineering resource for students, parents, and educators.
Volunteer Pilot Program
During Summer Camp 2026, Newton’s Attic launched the pilot version of our new Youth Volunteer Program. After a successful first year, we are excited to continue and expand the program for Summer 2027. While updates and improvements are underway, one thing is clear: this is a program we want to grow.
Our youth volunteers gain professional skills, life skills, and hands‑on experience that go far beyond traditional service hours. This is an application‑based program designed to help young people become dependable, kind, patient, useful, and confident members of their community. Volunteers work directly alongside Newton’s Attic staff as they help younger students build, explore, create, problem‑solve, and learn through hands‑on STEM projects.
Volunteers may assist with classroom activities, setup and cleanup, lunch and transitions, student encouragement, materials organization, and project support. Students do not need to be STEM experts. We are looking for volunteers who are teachable, reliable, kind, and ready to help.
More information will be released as it becomes available. Applications for Summer 2027 will open at the beginning of the 2027 calendar year.
